Parent Groups
Malmo School has two active parent groups.
The Malmo School Council or MSC is a group of parents and teachers working together to advise the principal about school matters. The MSC is an opportunity for participation in school decision making. It helps to represent the views of the people in the school community and develops the culture of the school. The school council does not fundraise.
At MSC meetings you can find out what is happening at Malmo School such as special events, school test results, new equipment, information on school closures, and guest speakers. Teachers of Malmo School also do presentations to the Council. You will be able to connect with other parents, discuss issues with the principal, and help to give ideas for solutions.
The Malmo Parent Association or MPA is a separate group from the MSC. It is the fundraising group for the school and helps to raise money for extra items needed at the school. In the past, the MPA raised funds to purchase:
- Smart boards
- Laptop computers
- Hand bells
- Robotics lab
- English, Arabic and French Library books
- Sports equipment
The MPA also provides funding for school clubs and special fieldtrips such as School at the Legislature and Fort Edmonton Park. MPA meetings take place on the same night as the MSC. Come to the meeting to have a say in how fundraising money is spent and to organize future fundraising events!
